Usability
One thing that is often forgotten by web developers
is the fact that a website’s main aim should be to
allow browsers to find information about a company
or product that they are interested in. Placing obstacles
in the way of potential customers in the form of
confusing or non-consistent links and buttons will
result in them clicking away from your site. Worse
than that, they might find what they want easier at
your competitors’ sites.
Although it is an advantage to have an impressive
looking site, it should also work as the customer
expects it to. Keep navigation simple and provide
secondary forms of navigation where needed. On large
sites containing lots of information provide some
sort of search facility, on all pages if possible,
or at the very least a site map containing links to
all the important parts of the site.
